Real Madrid haven’t had the best of starts to the year. After losing just twice over the entirety of 2016, they have already lost two games in 17 days this year. While one of the loss was in Copa Del Rey to Celta Vigo, hence it will not affect their standing in the League as such. But it is something which will certainly be making Zidane think of the season ahead.
They are well and truly in the driver’s seat to reclaim the La Liga trophy from Barcelona this season and after a stellar last year under Zinedine Zidane coupled with the uncharacteristic inconsistencies of Barcelona, it is no wonder that Los Blancos are leading Barcelona by 5 points at the moment.
While he may well be their greatest USP, the main worry for Zidane will be Ronaldo’s form and his extreme levels of inconsistency which has been evident this season. While he has got the numbers, the distribution of those goals have been questionable and he needs to attain a level of consistency, especially after having taken up the striking role.
And it is quite evident that Real Madrid will have difficulties in finding someone up top with the stature and charisma of Ronaldo making it quite difficult for others to make a mark after coming in. Hence, Zidane has to formulate a plan to increase the goals from elsewhere.
The likes of Modric and Kroos are not the most prolific in front of goal and that sometimes puts pressure on the attackers when they are having an off day. Goals from midfield are invaluable and if reports are to be believed Zidane might just have decided on a move which has the potential of changing all that.
Real Madrid are apparently ready to continue their streak of raiding Tottenham Hotspur for their best talent with a determined approach for the star of the moment- Dele Alli. It is no secret and a very well versed fact regarding Real Madrid’s penchant and an affinity towards Spurs’ players with both Modric and Bale leaving the White Hart Lane right at the time they were in their best form.
Alli joined Spurs in the summer of 2015, six months after the North Londoners signed him and during the time, he was playing for his former club MK Dons on loan as a part of the deal. Injuries to then key players Nabil Bentaleb and Ryan Mason at Tottenham opened the door for him to first-team football and once he got that, he made sure that Pochettino found no reason to drop him.
Alli is more of a complete midfielder who would be a perfect player for Zidane at Real Madrid. He can play as a number eight, number ten or a number six and has a brilliant eye for goals. He regularly manages to find pockets of space behind defenders and is a pretty hard-working player too.
He is ambitious like any young player today and while there are question marks on whether this would be the right move for him at this stage in his career, this scope of thought will probably take a backseat if Real Madrid does come in for him.
