The Saido Berahino transfer saga seems to be going on forever now. Ever since the lust of Tottenham Hotspur enveloped him after his breakthrough season at the club, things have downhill for the player and his relationship with the club.
The fine English talent developed attitude problems along with minor disciplinary issues, which are supposedly mentioned in the handbook for manufacturing a move away from a club. But it did not work out as well for the young player as the club were determined to thwart his attempts at engineering a move out of Hawthorns. But ultimately, the episode doesn’t seem to have helped either of the two parties and after the player reportedly rejected a deal worth £60,000- per week from his current club, a move is on the cards.
While it is clear that the Baggies will not be able to fetch even half the price the striker was once valued at, it is will be better if the player can kick-start his career somewhere else after a breakdown in relations.
Let us take a look at 3 possible destinations for the wantaway striker-
STOKE CITY
The Potters have reportedly revived their interest in Berahino and are preparing a £12m for him. The experiment with Bony has seemingly failed and they have Crouch, Diouf and Walters as the other options. None of them are good enough to be long-term regular starters at the club and Hughes is targeting the wantaway Baggies star to solve that particular conundrum.
While Bony has not been able to succeed as a lone striker, he might be tried out alongside the more agile Berahino who has a contrasting style of play.
CRYSTAL PALACE
The Eagles are having a horrendous season. Having notched up just 6 wins over the entire course of last year, this year doesn’t seem to be getting any better for them. Sam Allardyce is still winless in his first 4 matches, losing two of them and scoring a single goal.
He has reiterated his desire to bolster the attacking department and a move for the available Berahino might help them in that regard. Allardyce’s failure to sign Defoe leaves the option to pursue the West Brom player open.
WEST HAM UNITED
The Hammers have issues all over the pitch but the area which has been literally driving them nuts since summer is their options up front. A mega money move failed to materialise in the summer and they have to settle for Simone Zaza who turned out to be an epic failure.
Andy Carroll cannot be trusted with leading the attack for a whole season and a move for Saido Berahino is certainly logical for the club who have and can do much worse.
