West Bromwich Albion have had a stupendous campaign so far as they have been climbing up the ladder slowly but surely. Placed eighth in the league table after 22 League outings, the Baggies might be far off from securing a Europa League spot but they can very well finish their season a step ahead of their current position. What a phenomenon achievement that would be!
However, one of the major concerns they’ve had lately is the failure to chalk out a deal with their targets and have been reduced to a spectator in the ongoing transfer window. Jake Livermore has been the only signing for them and not to forget that their striker Saido Berahino finally had the last laugh as the tantrums he created for around a year or so forced Tony Pulis to let him go to the bet365 Stadium.
The competitiveness in the Premier League is humungous and the teams placed below West Bromwich Albion are not going to make it easy for them. Pulis has made some changes to his tactics this season, inclining himself towards a bit more offensive brand of football, and would not refrain from continuing it as it has been very productive. But then, he does need men with quality to amend the tweaks existing here and there to bolster their squad.
Of late, West Brom have been linked with Manchester United’s long-standing servant Ashley Young, who has been an outcast more often than not ever since Jose Mourinho took the throne. The 31-year-old has been handed merely four league appearances and has been under the radar of a handful of clubs, including the emerging and financially appealing sides from the Far East. Would it not be an astute move on the part of the Baggies to rope someone with pedigree, precision and power like Young?
Owing to the plethora of stars at the disposal, the wide man has been marginalised at Manchester United. But undoubtedly, he is still one of the fearsome drivers from the left flank who can drop make the fans applaud with the way he rockets past the defenders on the wings and cuts inside to bang in spectacular goals or create chances. Young has the versatility tag around his neck, and Louis Van Gaal derived the most out of him during his tenure at the Old Trafford.
Young had been one of the potent weapons in the attacking arsenal of the Red Devils and despite the fact that he has lost that old flamboyance, he isn’t obsolete and can still deliver for a side like West Bromwich Albion. Full-backs have never had an easy day whenever Young was on song and in Pulis’ tactical setup, he needs men like the English international to ensure proper implementation. Besides his calibre, he has the experience and winners’ attitude which can definitely help Pulis in accomplishing his objectives.
