The first objective of any club is to avoid relegation. Like any other clubs, West Bromwich Albion must share this perception and after 22 league outings, it would not be unsafe to presume that they are going to be in the top tier next season as well. Placed eight at the moment, the Baggies have always been around the mid-table region more often than not, but this season might be their best Premier League season. I used the term ‘might’ only after considering the unforeseen contingencies that might arise.
Not to mention that 2012-13 season was very impressive from West Bromwich Albion, when they finished their campaign by accommodating themselves in the eight spot in the league table. In a season where they could have finished a place or two higher, the injuries during the busy festive period took their toll. Not pondering too much on what had transpired, Tony Pulis has a brilliant opportunity to ink his name in the pages of history by bettering the club’s stature, and he has apparently taken a right direction in the ongoing transfer window.
Reportedly, Watford’s front man, Odion Ighalo, has been linked with a move to the Hawthorns to bolster Pulis’ line-up. A £17 million bid has been tabled in front of the Hornets to urge them into selling their prized asset. The 27-year-old was one of the prime reasons of Watford’s promotion to the top tier as he banged 20 goals in the Championship in the 2014-15 campaign and then followed it up by banging 17 goals in the Premier League last term.
However, after the departure of Quique Sanchez Flores, Ighalo has struggled to create a threatening force with his partner in crime, Troy Deeney, and has found the back of the net only once in the league so far.
Walter Mazzarri has failed to ignite the Nigerian international and Pulis is on high alert about a potential move to acquire him. At West Bromwich Albion, Ighalo could be stationed with Salomon Rondon to create a formidable pairing to help the Baggies in clinching a higher spot. The former Udinese attacker is a poacher, likes to dribble, is clinical and is a proven goal scorer nonetheless. His aerial ability is unquestionable he has the top flight experience as well.
Seeing him along with Rondon would be a teat to watch, for they have a humungous knack to tear defences and bury their chances. The Baggies are enjoying a magnificent form and in no way should they hinder themselves from making a move for Ighalo.
