This season’s West Bromwich Albion haven’t implemented their advocacies of employing a brand of football which focuses more on the physical aspects than the technical or tactical one. They have been direct in their approach, but Pulis’ side have mixed the hoof-ball game with some good on the deck passing and having some talented players has helped the gaffer’s cause.
Tony Pulis’ men are currently placed 8th in the league table which is a remarkable evidence of their advancement this season. However, they suffered a setback when they were forced to sell their troublesome yet clinical forward Saido Berahino to Stoke City. To keep the momentum alive and to stay averse to a dip in form, the Baggies do need quality as well as depth up front to fill in the shoes of Berahino and recently, they have been linked with Bournemouth striker Callum Wilson to meet their needs.
The 24-year-old has made 19 appearances in the league so far, scoring 6 goals and creating 8 chances and Pulis is preparing a whopping transfer fee of £20 million for the goal machine. Wilson is a prolific attacker and always imposes himself as a genuine target man in the final third.
He knows where the goal is, buries his chances well, can unlock even the most stubborn defences, is physically strong and is one of the best in the league when it comes to keeping a hold of the ball and letting the attacking midfielders surge forward.
A youth product of Coventry City, Wilson has been an appreciable asset as he helped the Cherries earn a promotion to the top tier of English football. Injuries did halt his progress but the former England U21 player has started to hit the deck hard once again. Without any shadow of a doubt, he is an all-rounded campaigner whose experience and class will really help Pulis in targeting a Europa League spot.
Losing the services of Berahino does imply that the Hawthorns is echoing for the need someone from the league to partner Salomon Rondon up front or deputise for him and thus, making an audacious bid for Eddie Howe’s trusted attacker makes perfect sense.
Frankly speaking, he could take the pressure off Rondon’s shoulders and help the Baggies in reaching greater heights. The winter transfer window is one where it’s tough to sign players, but if West Brom can get their hands on Wilson, he’d be a brilliant addition to the team.
