Walter Mazzarri had a pretty decent start to life at Watford but things have started going against the Hornets of late. It is still early days for the Italian manager in English football and we do understand that maintaining consistency is a hard ask. Watford have been linked with a host of players recently as the January transfer window has started. The Hornets have been one of the busiest clubs since they earned promotion to the Premier League which suggests that this January could be similar.
Let us discuss how likely are the transfer stories likely to translate into reality.
Scott Hogan- 8/10
One thing that has let Watford down badly this season is their lack of firepower up front. The Hornets have scored just 23 goals this season. The likes of Ighalo and Deeney, who stunned the Premier League last season, are finding it hard to discover their goalscoring boots. Watford reportedly want Brentford forward Scott Hogan to put an end to their goalscoring woes.
The 24-year-old has scored 14 goals in all competitions this season and will certainly make the Watford attack much stronger. Premier League will be a big step up for him, though.
Keisuke Honda- 7/10
Football Italia claim that once the poster boy of Asian football, Keisuke Honda, is wanted by Mazzarri at Vicarage Road and this one also seems pretty much likely. There is no reason for Honda to turn down Watford. He clearly is not good enough for AC Milan anymore but could demand a big salary at his next club. Watford, being from the Premier League, should not find it hard to keep him happy. He knows Italian football closely and should fit in Mazzarri’s system quite easily. If Watford can offer him a chance to stay in Europe, it could prove to be too good to turn down.
Henri Lansbury- 6/10
All of a sudden, Henri Lansbury is one of the most wanted players in England. The Nottingham Forest skipper is wanted by a host including the Hornets. The Arsenal youth graduate has been a revelation in the Championship level for quite a long time and Watford reportedly are looking to offer him a chance at the top level now.
Why not? Lansbury was once touted to be a future star at Arsenal but things did not go his way. If Watford now offer him an opportunity to shine, he is very likely to pounce onto it. However, they will have to compete with many clubs as his contract is expiring in the summer and he is up for grabs.
