Manchester United have steadied their dwindling ship in the last month or so and are currently on their best winning streak in recent years as they beat Wigan 4-0 to notch up their 7th win on the trot. It is rather surprising that they still find themselves in the 6th place and that is a testimony to the uber-competitiveness of the league, especially at this very moment. The numerous draws at home also played its part in ensuring that Jose Mourinho’s side do not reap any immediate reward for their winning run.
With the January window in full swing, there is a chance that Manchester United will be adding to their squad with a number of departures also in the offing.
With the transfer window heating up gradually, let us take a moment to assess the transfer likeliness of the following rumours circulating Old Trafford.
VICTOR LINDELOF- 8/10
The Swedish international has been embroiled in transfer proceedings for quite a while now. United will be looking to offload Blind and Smalling in the near future and with Bailly off to the AFCON and Rojo suffering an injury, the stage is set for Lindelof to make the move.
The contract dispute between Benfica and his boyhood club Vasteras is now resolved which will most likely see the player take up the No.2 jersey at Old Trafford which has apparently been allocated to him already. But with Mou reiterating he does not intend to sign in January, the deal might get stretched to summer.
JAMES RODRIGUEZ- 6/10
The Real Madrid star has apparently issued a come and get me plea to Jose Mourinho. He hasn’t been able to nail down a starting spot and has gone further down the pecking order under Zidane. The 25-year old played a starring role in the Copa Del Rey and had positive words to say about the club.
But it is understood that his high-profile agent Jorge Mendes in busy behind the scenes to construct a move to Manchester United. With Depay, Schneiderlin and Fellaini linked with an exit, the move could yet materialise.
VIRGIL VAN DIJK- 4/10
Another central defensive target for Manchester United. It is believed much like his counterpart at the other side of the City, Jose Mourinho also wants to overhaul his defensive backline as he aims to get into the Champions League and then look to sustain it next season.
The Southampton man has been impressive for the Saints but United will face competition in the form of Manchester City and Chelsea if Southampton do decide to sell.
