Chelsea have had a brilliant campaign under Antonio Conte. With 55 points from 22 league outings and 8 points ahead of their arch-rivals and second-seeded side, Arsenal, the Blues have been in a rampaging mood after their initial hiccups when they were acclimatising themselves under a ramified tactical setup after the arrival of their new gaffer.
Their defence, in particular, has been very strong, impenetrable and rigid as they have re-established themselves at the summit of English football. Thibaut Courtois deserves a special mention too, as he has been outstanding with the gloves, ensuring that his side can take marauding steps knowing that there is a trusted deputy at between the sticks.
However, amidst the spectacular displays of the Belgian international, his second fiddle in the shape of Asmir Begovic has been marginalised and severely ignored by Conte. The 29-year-old was brought in the summer transfer window of 2015 from Stoke City where he made a name for himself, but he has found first-team opportunities pretty hard to come by.
The Pensioners have reportedly made Begovic aware of the fact that he may leave the Stamford Bridge in the ongoing transfer window, for the proven goalie also deserves the chance of plying his trade week in and week out. Now that a departure seems to be on the cards, here are three goalkeepers Conte might consider to sign in order to replace Begovic.
- Craig Gordon
Chelsea have been linked with the Celtic stopper who has previous experience in the Premier League, having been with Sunderland for five years. Gordon is the first-choice goalkeeper of the Bhoys and has had a solid season in Brendan Rodgers side who are running away with the Scottish Premiership. Of course, it would be tough to lure him, but Conte would strike gold if he manages to do it.
- Salvatore Sirigu
The Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper is yet another renowned goalkeeper Chelsea can sign in order to fill Begovic’s shoes if the Bosnian international leaves that is. The Italian is currently on loan to La Liga side Sevilla but has been barely used, thus implying that there is a huge possibility for a move if Chelsea can persuade him to.
- Tim Krul
Currently on loan to Dutch Eredivisie outfit Ajax, Tim Krul has emerged as one of the targets Chelsea have put on their radar. The Dutchman has truckloads of experience in the Premier League whilst standing between the sticks for Newcastle United and is definitely a gettable option.
