The axe of relegation is looming large over Sunderland who look pretty helpless at the moment. Placed rock bottom in the league table, Sunderland have been absolutely shambolic and are three points behind 17th placed Swansea City.
More than anything else, their attacking arsenal has been blunt as a result of which the Black Cats have mustered merely 20 goals in 22 league outings and have thus failed to trouble teams.
On the other hand, Leicester City have an abundance of quantity as well as quality in their attack, as a result of which Leonardo Ulloa has fallen behind in the pecking order.
The 30-year-old has been significantly overlooked by Claudio Ranieri and is desperately looking for a team who could provide him with regular first team football. Considering that Ulloa is a proven veteran and a Premier League winner, isn’t it a superb opportunity for a side like Sunderland to pull someone with a substantial pedigree to their side?
Ulloa played a key role in Leicester City’s magnificent title-winning campaign last term, scoring 6 goals in 29 appearances. However, he has been only a shadow of his former self-owing to the lack of confidence invested in him by the manager, playing merely 12 times and scoring just once. Moreover, he has created merely 2 chances and has no assists to his name with a horrible pass accuracy of 67%. Huh, how miserable has been his fall!
Let’s not forget that the former Brighton & Hove Albion striker still has some good years left in him. Make no mistake, he is not a phenomenon goal scorer but it is his work rate and his ability to keep the defenders on their toes in the final third which does the damage. He is well built which makes him a meticulous customer as far as being aerial soundness is concerned, caters to the defensive needs of his side, is a neat finisher and can help the team in the attack if played in the right setup.
Moyes is in a dire need for a target man and without any shadow of a doubt, Ulloa fits the bill. He has truckloads of experience under his belt, can hold the ball well and be a good outlet on the counters. It is high time for the former Manchester United manager to look add some support to help an ageing Jermain Defoe and the relegation dwellers have a huge opportunity to stay averse to the last three spots if they manage to sign Ulloa.
