Former Liverpool striker Stan Collymore has said that only Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo can be compared with Wayne Rooney. The England forward recently scored his 250th goal for Manchester United to become the top scorer for them.
The 31-year-old has been with Manchester United since 2004 after Alex Ferguson signed him as an 18-year-old teenager. The England international has won every trophy available in England in his 13-year stint with United. Since making his debut, the United captain has won the Premier League five times and the Champions League once.
Recently, Zlatan Ibrahimovic also criticised a portion of the English media citing that Rooney doesn’t get the appreciation what he should have got. The former Everton player recently snubbed a massive offer from China to stay at the Old Trafford.
Collymore said, “If you take out the big two, Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, he has had as good a career as anybody in the world over the last decade.
“You don’t break Sir Bobby Charlton’s England or Manchester United’s goal records without being something very special.
“So huge congratulations to Wayne Rooney for achieving both, for a fantastic career that has seen him win virtually every trophy.”
