Queens Park Rangers have been absolutely terrible this season in the Sky Bet Championship, the latest reminder of which was derived from their loss at the hands of Burton Albion which has left them merely eight points above the relegation zone. The Hoops have distanced themselves from the pack of teams chasing the promotion to the top tier as they are floating aimlessly at the moment with very little to aspire for.
Amidst the clouds of chaos that has been circling above the Loftus Road, a moment of solace arrived lately as they acquired the services of Sean Goss from Premier League heavyweights Manchester United. Signed for a nominal fee of £500,000, the newcomer has been a very decent product to have blossomed from the Red Devils’ group of promising youngsters but failed to make the cut in the senior side. However, he has the calibre to ink his name as a QPR sensation in the near future if he converts his talents into something productive.
Signed from Exeter City in the summer transfer window of 2012, Goss was born in Germany and is a central midfielder by trade. Time and again, he had drawn comparisons with the legendary figure of Michael Carrick but owing to the plethora of stars in the ranks of the red half of Manchester, his stature was certainly overlooked.
The 21-year-old does have a wide range of attributes including his ability to keep the ball, spread passes meticulously, having an eye-catching technique, is someone with a lovely left foot.
Moreover, he has a scintillating aura of pushing the ball up the pitch and never refrains from putting his body on the line. Frankly speaking, he is more of a box-to-box midfielder and was one of the youngsters on whom the former Manchester United manager Louis van Gaal had huge interest in. More than anything else, the R’s will have the luxury of having a young lad at the centre of the park who can spread the ball around the pitch with impeccable precision.
Goss had always impressed with the reserves side and at this point of his career, he should play week in and week out for a senior side to continue his progress. Ian Holloway has already signed Kazenga LuaLua from Brighton & Hove Albion and now with Goss in their brigade, there is a special talent in their midfield who can definitely be a short-term as well as a long-term solution for them.
