Leeds United have been absolutely brilliant so far this campaign and are undeniably one of the most deserving candidates for getting promoted to the Premier League. Garry Monk has dealt with the baptism of fire pretty well so far, to be honest, considering their infamous penchant for sacking managers. The Peacocks are placed third in the Sky Bet Championship table at the moment and maybe, just maybe, it might be their year of celebration for the first time since more than a decade.
The high-flying teams in the shape of Brighton & Hove Albion and Newcastle United have more or less booked the automatic promotion spot which implies that Leeds United cannot afford to have any complacency. The likes of Derby County, Norwich City and Barnsley are also in good form and are expected to challenge the Whites in concluding stages of the league. Which is why Monk must make full use of the remainder of the transfer window to fix his side and tighten the screws to ensure that they maintain their stronghold in the play-off spots.
Interestingly, one of the latest reports that have emerged has linked West Ham United’s sensational striker Ashley Fletcher with a loan move to Leeds United. Monk’s men suffered a massive humiliation as non-league Sutton United dumped Leeds out of the FA Cup with a 1-0 win and no wonder the former Swansea City boss is a worried man at the moment.
The youngster was brought from Manchester United for free in the summer transfer window but has struggled to make any substantial impact in Slaven Bilic‘s side and that’s why the Croatian might be tempted to send his starlet on loan for the rest of the reasons in order to chisel him more.
The Whites have placed huge expectations and burden on their main man, Chris Wood. But sadly, there isn’t much depth in the ranks to share the responsibilities, which is why a loan deal for Fletcher is in the pipeline. The 21-year-old has a series of abilities which include raw pace and clinical finishing despite his young age. Moreover, he has a decent work rate and can definitely help Leeds to secure promotion, should a loan deal materialise in the coming 48 hours or so.
Leeds have decent money to spend after the recent takeover of Radrizzani and should ensure they add a good backup for Wood who isn’t immune to a loss of form or even injuries.
