Manchester United will look to complete the formality when they meet Hull City in the 2nd leg of the EFL Cup semifinal at the KCOM Stadium. They are carrying forward a comfortable 2-0 lead from the 1st leg which was played at Old Trafford and are the overwhelming favourites to march into the finals. The EFL Cup will give Jose Mourinho to notch up his first piece of silverware as Manchester United coach and thus its significance has increased manifold for Jose Mourinho.
United are coming off a hard fought 1-1 draw against Stoke City at the Bet 365 Stadium in which a late Wayne Rooney free-kick saw them salvage a draw and it also helped the club captain become the highest ever goal scorer surpassing Sir Bobby Charlton. He will be in line for a rare start on Thursday and will hope to give another vital performance and make it harder for Jose to keep him out of the starting 11 in the league.
Hull City, meanwhile, seemed a sprightly bunch under new manager Marco Silva and made things difficult for Chelsea, before the Blues saw things through with their class to refined to penetrate for the Tigers. They need a miracle to advance to the finals and for that reason, the match might well see a number of changes in both team sheets.
PREDICTED MANCHESTER UNITED XI VS HULL CITY (4-2-3-1)
DEFENCE
Sergio Romero might get a call up to perform the glove duties and after apparently rejecting an offer to move which would have guaranteed his place in the National team, he deserves a chance. Darmian might be played at right-back at long last or we could see Ashley Young being deployed there once again. Smalling and Rojo can line up in the centre-back positions while Blind also provides an option. Luke Shaw is fit and might get some game time. on the left
MIDFIELD
United can deviate from the 3-man midfield for this match and afford some rest to Paul Pogba. Carrick sat out in the last match and might see some action initially. He can be partnered by Fellaini with rotations the call of the day with the FA Cup also coming up. And in the No.10, United’s highest goal scorer of all time is likely to come in.
ATTACK
Martial can come in on the left wing with Lingard a possibility on the opposite side. Rashford is likely to lead the line which will mean a breather for Zlatan.
