What a run Manchester United are in at the moment! Their season did not start in the best possible fashion but the Red Devils have turned around a corner and are now in the running for a top-four finish. They are just 3 points adrift of the fourth place and are on the back of a nine-game winning run. They are also unbeaten in 15 games in all competitions. But, in such a brilliant run, they have hardly faced a challenge, something Liverpool will provide on Sunday.
It’s the biggest game of the season at Old Trafford when Manchester United will welcome their biggest rivals Liverpool this weekend. Liverpool have been one of the most dominant forces in the Premier League this campaign but have faced a hiccup of late. Their last three games have resulted in two draws and one loss. We have wait and see if the Reds can pick up their game when they lock horns with their biggest rivals.
Here is the predicted Manchester United lineup against Liverpool.
Defence
David de Gea, probably the best keeper in the Premier League, will be on duty under the bar. Liverpool, on their day, are brilliant attacking wise and de Gea will know that he will be tested many times. Antonio Valencia has a brilliant history against Liverpool and will start at right-back.
Marcos Rojo is a doubt for the game and considering the form he was in before the knock, he could be thrown back into the starting XI if he is match-fit. Chris Smalling could keep his place at the back alongside Phil Jones if Rojo doesn’t make it in time. Daley Blind is likely to start at left-back.
Midfield
United’s midfield trio of Carrick, Pogba and Herrera has done really well as a unit and Mourinho is likely to keep his faith in the trio. Carrick will be the deepest midfielder whose main job will be to break down Liverpool’s attack and dictate the game from deep.
Herrera has been a key player for the Red Devils this season with his ball-winning ability and passing. Paul Pogba will be looking to showcase his talent in the biggest game in English football.
Attack
Juan Mata has always performed against Liverpool, be it for Chelsea or Manchester United. The Spaniard is likely to start on the right flank. Jesse Lingard is likely to start on the left as Mourinho will be looking to nullify the impact of Nathaniel Clyne. In-form Zlatan Ibrahimovic will surely spearhead United’s attack.
