Liverpool will make their way to Old Trafford in a poor run of form after successive draws against Sunderland and Plymouth was followed by a loss against Southampton in the League Cup semi-final in a display after which they would have been relieved with a 1-0 scoreline.
Having being outplayed by Southampton, the brilliance of Karius and the profligacy of Nathan Redmond conspired to avoid an embarrassing loss for the Reds. Jurgen Klopp has missed the services of Jordan Henderson and it is imperative for the team that they have their captain back. Emre Can was a disaster and his shocking dip in form is something which has been a worrying factor for Liverpool.
Sadio Mane was missed and it is something they have not yet come up with a solution for. His raw pace on the flanks pulled defenders out of position thus allowing the likes of Coutinho and Firmino to operate more freely in spaces which opened up. But with a more static Sturridge seemingly an option or Origi, that bit of advantage will now be gone.
Manchester United managed an away draw against them and many feel with Mane absent, the Red Devils can go a step further this time. But on the positive side for Liverpool, they have Coutinho back from an injury, which will be a huge bonus.
PREDICTED LIVERPOOL XI VS MANCHESTER UNITED (4-3-3)
DEFENCE
Although Karius put in a commendable stint under the posts against Southampton, Mignolet’s privilege as the No.1 in the league is unlikely to be challenged for the clash. The fans will hope the Belgian has a flawless performance against United as he will be needed to be at his best. Clyne will be at right-back while Matip has only a slim chance of being fit for this encounter which will see Lovren and Klavan line-up at centre-back once again. James Milner is the obvious choice at left-back and his experience and calm head will be needed in the match.
MIDFIELD
Klopp will be hoping Henderson is back for the game and in that case, it might be Can who will be giving way. Alongside the captain, in midfield, Adam Lallana and Wijnaldum will be the players tasked with nullifying United’s midfield 3.
ATTACK
Coutinho is likely to start and will be on the left-hand side of the front three while Sturridge can be on the opposite side although some might prefer Origi’s industry while Firmino will again be in the False 9 role.
