Spurs did the task, that seemed impossible since October, in the midweek which was handing Chelsea their first defeat in 13 games. The Blues failed to stretch their winning streak to 14 Premier League games as Arsenal still maintain their record of consecutive wins in the Premier League. Spurs are in red-hot form at the moment having won five games on the bounce and will be keen to keep up their impressive showings when they take on Aston Villa in the third round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
Aston Villa are having a decent season in the Championship this time around but aren’t expected to match Tottenham’s quality at all. However, we expect Pochettino to rotate his squad against Villa which gives the Villans a decent chance in the game.
Spurs have revived their season to come back in the title race from a long way behind and Pochettino might not take the FA Cup seriously considering his squad depth will be examined by Europa League commitments. So, we can expect rotations in the Spurs squad. Here is the predicted Spurs lineup Aston Villa.
Defence
Michel Vorm should get his chance under the bar in place of Hugo Lloris. Kieran Trippier has impressed whenever he was offered a chance by Pochettino this season but had to settle for a place on the bench in most games due to Kyle Walker’s amazing form. Trippier should get his chance at right-back.
Danny Rose could get a breather as well and Ben Davies is expected to deputise for him at left-back. Eric Dier should start at the heart of the defence. Kevin Wimmer should start alongside the Englishman in defence. Spurs’ first-choice centre-back pairing, Toby Alderweireld and Jan Vertonghen, are likely to get rested in the game.
Midfield
Tom Carroll should get a start in the middle of the park and will be keen to impress. Harry Winks should start alongside the Englishman in midfield. Youngster Josh Onomah could get a chance in the number ten role. The likes of Mousa Dembele, Victor Wanyama and Dele Alli have all played an awful amount of football this season and should get a much-deserved break.
Attack
Moussa Sissoko is expected to start against Villa on the right flank. We expect Heung-Min Son to get a start on the left flank. Vincent Janssen is yet to make a strong impact at White Hart Lane since his move in the summer and will get another chance to prove his worth against Villa.
