Leeds United will be up against League Two side Cambridge United in the third round of the FA Cup on Monday night. The Whites are in sublime form this season and are in contention for promotion and Monk might use this game to test his squad depth. Cambridge are in League Two and are in pretty good form as well. Even though Leeds are strong favourites for the game, you cannot claim that they will have a walk in the park as Cup games never fail to surprise us.
Leeds had a brilliant last game in the midweek against Rotherham United where they thrashed the struggling championship side 3-0. We expect Monk to rest several of his key players against Cambridge because, at the moment, the fans will love to stay in the promotion race rather than have a long Cup run. The Whites do not have good squad depth but those who are craving for chances, are expected to have their opportunity to impress. Here is the predicted Leeds United lineup vs Cambridge United.
Defence
Marco Silvestri will get his chance to impress under the bar. The Italian custodian has found first-team chances hard to come this season and is behind Robert Green in the pecking order. He will be keen to impress. Luke Ayling could be rested which means Gaetano Berardi will start at right-back. Kyle Bartley also could be rested in the game which means Pontus Jansson and Liam Cooper will start at the heart of the defence. Youngster Tyler Denton will get his chance to impress at left-back.
Midfield
Toumani Diagouraga should start in the middle of the park and is expected to be partnered by Alex Mowatt. Both have struggled for opportunities this season and will be keen to have a good showing. Youngster Ronaldo Vieira, a very highly-rated midfielder, will get his chance in the number ten role. Vieira is predominantly a number eight but has impressed when he had his chance in the number ten role. A good showing will be expected from the 18-year-old.
Attack
Marcus Antonsson has failed to make any kind of impact at Elland Road since his summer move. Monk is likely to hand the Swede another chance up front in the FA Cup tie. Hadi Sacko should start on the right flank. Stuart Dallas is expected to ply his trade on the left flank.
