Manchester City will have to get past Crystal Palace on Saturday if they are to progress in the FA Cup. City are already out of the EFL Cup after losing against Manchester United where Pep Guardiola had played a strictly inexperienced side who just did not have enough in the tank to break down the Red Devils.
And although they are struggling in the League, the FA Cup is something Pep will want his side to perform well. And along with gaining confidence and momentum, he will get an opportunity to test his bench strength with a number of players keen to get back into action and show their mettle with talks of a major overhaul in the summer doing the rounds.
Palace, meanwhile, are going through a horrendous phase and the change of manager hasn’t had much effect on their league form as he is still winless there. Palace are making a number of signings and Big Sam will be hoping they gel with the group and help in a quick turnaround. And although even City are not in the best of forms, they will be considered outright favourites which might just suit the Eagles perfectly.
It is expected to be an entertaining match and Palace will be looking to get at the extremely brittle City backline.
PREDICTED MANCHESTER CITY LINE-UP VS CRYSTAL PALACE (4-1-4-1)
DEFENCE
Willy Caballero should be coming in and will look to continue his run of form which has seen him give a good account of himself whenever he has got a chance. Bacary Sagna will most likely line-up on the right-side in defence with John Stones a certainty at centre-back. Guardiola might spring a surprise and get Tosin Adarabioyo to partner the former Everton man. With talks regarding the youngster’s contract situation, Pep might select him to emphasise his importance to the team. Clichy might get a nod at left-back with Kolarov earning a rest.
MIDFIELD
Fernando is expected to play in the anchor role and this display will be crucial for his future chances in the team. He has failed to grasp his opportunities in Fernandinho’s absence and this might be an important game for him. Delph is near certain to play a part and might line-up alongside David Silva in an advanced role.
ATTACK
Nolito is expected to make a comeback to the team and will take up a spot on the left wing with Jesus Navas looking likely for a place on the right wing. Iheanacho might get a start and he knows how important it will be to come up with an eye-catching display.
