Sean Dyche’s men rightly kept their composure as they progressed to the fifth round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win over Bristol City on Saturday. A win was needed after their usually solid defence was crestfallen when Arsenal came back with a winner in the dying minutes of the Premier League game last week.
Burnley have been quite organised, conceding 33 goals in 22 games, and it has been one of the prime reasons for their good league position compared to the mid-table teams. The centre-halves, Michael Keane and Ben Mee, have been quintessential to Burnley’s success, but having Mee at the centre has depleted options for Dyche on his left flank. The only natural left-back remaining is Stephen Ward and with the team progressing into the FA Cup fifth round, Dyche is looking to add more depth to the squad.
Hull City’s Robert Snodgrass had been one of the prime targets for Burnley this winter and losing him to West Ham United has been a big disappointment. And according to reports, they now plan a new raid on Hull’s Scotland left-back Andy Robertson, who is valued at £3million and the Clarets are hoping for some luck in trying to sign him.
Robertson joined Hull in 2014 making a decent 24 appearances in his debut season in the Premier League, but couldn’t save the Tigers from getting relegated. He didn’t let his form dip and played a significant role in winning the Tigers a promotion back to the top-flight. And he has been an important player for them despite his young age.
With new boss Marco Silva installing renewed hope among the players of the bottom dwelling team, a move away from the KCOM Stadium looks quite unlikely for Andrew now. Although Burnley will have the advantage of a superior league position as compared to Hull, who might get relegated this season, the player got a contract extension just before Christmas and isn’t looking for a move.
A youth product of Scottish club Queens Park FC, Robertson broke into the first team in 2012 and soon made a level up to Dundee United the following year. Hull City picked him up from Scotland in 2014 after some pretty impressive displays. A perfect left back, Robertson has attracted many clubs with his passing and dribbling skills.
Given his young age, he could definitely be a long-term prospect for the Clarets especially under a great tactician like Dyche.
