Manchester United are planning to relocate a large part of the season ticket holders to create more space for the disabled fans.
Currently, the disabled fans have only one stand dedicated for them and that is behind the goal. After the expansion, the current East stand will be merged with the sir Alex Ferguson and Bobby Charlton Stands. It will also reduce the capacity of the stadium to 73,300. Old Trafford currently holds around 75,600 people.
Manchester United group managing director Richard Arnold said, “Old Trafford is a home for all United fans and these changes will help many more of our loyal disabled supporters to attend games to watch their heroes.
“Manchester United prides itself on its work in this area for more than 25 years, and will continue to ensure that it remains at the forefront of our thinking.”
Manchester United currently have over 55,000 season ticket holders. The renovation will be done with the consultation of Equality and Human Rights Commission (EHRC) and Manchester United Disabled Supporters’ Association (MUDSA).
