Manchester United have launched a bid of £32.5m for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas. Jose Mourinho has made the Greece defender one of his primary targets after a move to sign Benfica defender Victor Lindelof got called off.
United was very close to sealing the deal for Lindelof but Benfica made some last minutes efforts to keep the defender at the club. The Portugal club was expected to offer him a new contract and was trying to stall the deal.
Manolas arrived in a £12.8m transfer from Olympiacos. He has been a regular for Roma this season and has racked up 15 appearances in the Serie A.
Mourinho has been a long-term admirer of the defender. In the summer when he was searching a defender he had enquired about the defender but later went on to sign Eric Bailly.
Roma is very reluctant to sell the defender that means the Red Devils have to bring the cheque book out to land the defender.
