Manchester United have finally gelled as a unit under the command of their new gaffer, José Mourinho. They have been finding the back of the net, have started to be creative in the middle of the park and resilient at the back. In their latest league outing, where they entered into the game against a good Liverpool side, Mourinho’s men earned a point to keep their spell of not being defeated since November last year very much intact.
However, there are six good teams (realistically speaking) who are going to leave no stone unturned in finishing inside the top four. Now that the Red Devils are one of them, they need to make the amendments at the club in the ongoing transfer window to ensure there are absolutely no loopholes in their armoury as they surge to mount a serious challenge for Champions League spots. So apparently, to cater to their offensive needs, they are lining up a bid lure Ajax’s striker, Kasper Dolberg, to the Old Trafford this month.
The 19-year-old has been in a scintillating form this season, scoring 8 goals in 16 appearances, bagging 2 assists and creating 13 chances for Ajax in the Dutch Eredivisie so far this season, including a hat-trick against NEC Nijmegen. He has forged a notable reputation for himself, in what is his first senior league season and is one of the finest talents in Dutch football at this point of time and no wonder the red half of Manchester are plotting an audacious move to get him.
Dolberg is primarily a centre-forward, though he can be efficient on flanks as well. His calibre doesn’t end there; he is an excellent mover up front, gets in the right areas, positions himself meticulously up front and is an excellent playmaker for Ajax. What is so special about him is that he keeps drifting in the final third, drops down some yards when needed, and takes part in the build-up play. The Danish international operates with a great deal of composure and his work-ethic inside the box is hugely impressive as well.
However, he lacks the stamina or precision in his passes, although he can definitely eradicate these flaws in due course of time. United will get a young, technically sound and promising player, who has speed and precision. Mourinho must look beyond his veteran striker, Zlatan Ibrahimović, in order to create a team for the future and thus, signing Dolberg in the ongoing transfer window will be a shrewd move from the Portuguese.
