In a major boost to Liverpool, Philippe Coutinho is set to return against Southampton in the EFL Cup semifinal, Jurgen Klopp has confirmed. The midfielder had been sidelined since he injured his ankle ligament against Sunderland last November.
Coutinho was supposed to return against Manchester City but his return was delayed. He also didn’t feature in the reverse fixture against Sunderland. The Brazilian hasn’t featured since the injury and is ready to make his first appearance in 2017.
Jordan Henderson will miss the game but James Milner will be available as Liverpool will take on the Saints.
Klopp said, “I think Phil is fit enough to be part of the squad. That could be minutes. It depends on the game.
“It was six or seven weeks, that’s long. He needs minutes in training and as soon as possible minutes in games. No final decision.
“He’s had his third complete session with the team, tomorrow the fourth.
“Milly, no issues anymore. Hendo, on a very good way, he’s really mentally strong. It’s still painful, but he’s doing well.”
