Leicester City’s title defence has been shambolic, pitiable and absolutely terrible. After an unprecedented fairy tale campaign last time around when they found themselves drenched in champagne in the merry month of May, the trajectory of their form has been unexplainably poor. Fifteenth in the league table with just twenty-one points from twenty league outings, Claudio Ranieri seems to be a worried man at the moment and is desperately vouching for an impetus to reclaim their lost pride.
Amidst the reports that have been circling across the internet and major dailies, the report of Leicester City pursuing Robbie Brady must interest a lot of football fanatics. The Norwich City winger has been in fine touch ever since the commencement of the 2015-16 season (despite his side getting relegated from the Premier League) and also left a thumping impression at Euro 2016 while plying his trade for his national team, Republic of Ireland. Interestingly, his form has not dipped this season at all.
The 24-year-old has already scored 3 goals this season in the Championship from 19 appearances, with as many assists to his name as well. He has been very much involved in the Canaries’ setup, creating 31 chances alongside pencilling as many as 4 defensive actions on an average every game. Unarguably, Brady has been one of the main men for Norwich City and there seems to be a lot of purpose in his pursuits to aid his side, which has certainly not gone unnoticed.
The former Hull City man will hand an excellent option to Ranieri, considering that he has some woes on the wings. Riyad Mahrez and Marc Albrighton have failed to replicate the inhuman form they possessed last season and this couple up with the apparent likelihood of Jeffrey Schlupp leaving the club in the ongoing transfer window owing to the lack of game time he has had under his belt so far this season.
Despite his nominal age, Brady has accumulated more than 200 club games and has plenty of Premier League exposure as well. When one briefs about the characteristics of a perfect utility player, Brady shall tick almost all the boxes. An excellent creator and passer of the ball with commendably precise crossing abilities, he has underlined his worthy dead ball prowess many times. Moreover, his versatility by quickly adapting to tactical ramifications is a prized trait in him.
Brady is an asset that will only appreciate and it is not by a whim that Ranieri has garnered interest in him. His improvement has been quite outstanding and investing in him shall be classified as nothing less than a well-calculated move. Before the tides overthrow and humiliate the Foxes completely, they must rope in key personnel into their side to ensure that they conclude the league by finding themselves as high as possible in the league table.
