Jürgen Klopp has asked his player to show what they are capable of after the defeat in the hand of Southampton in the EFL Cup semifinal. The Saints defeated the Reds 1-0 to send them packing from the EFL Cup.
This is Liverpool’s second successive defeat after they lost 3-2 at the hands of struggling Swansea City in the Premier League. Shane Long scored in the stoppage time to get Southampton through to the EFL Cup Final.
After a very good start to the season, Liverpool now seem to have lost their momentum. Injuries to Philippe Coutinho and Joel Matip proved to be a big blow to the Merseyside club as they are yet to prove their dominance in 2017.
With a very tough fixture ahead Klopp has told his men to gear up for the challenge and give their heart out. “It is in moments such as these, with the focus being on us to see how we react to setbacks, where I believe these players will show their very best qualities.
“If we would doubt the way we are after these little, little problems we’ve had now, it would really be a strange thing.
“We don’t have the points we want. That’s not the problem – that’s how it is.
“We know what we want to do, we know what we have to do and we know about the football we want to play, so that’s all good.”
