Jose Mourinho has taken a jibe at former Manchester United manager Luis Van Gaal. David De Gea won the player of the year award for three consecutive times and according to Mourinho, it is not right.
United managed to finish 4th and 6th in Louis Van Gall’s two seasons in charge. The Spaniard keeper has won Sir Matt Busby Player of the Season award for three years in a row starting from 2013. The 26-year old has been a constant performer for United for the past few seasons. He was again to United’s rescue as he saved a Michail Antonio shot which later proved to be a match-winning save.
Jose Mourinho was seen embracing his keeper as he knew the importance of this save.
Mourinho said, “Hopefully he’s not a player of the season this season — but hopefully he keeps making important saves for us like he did last week against West Ham.
“Of course I would love goalkeepers to be recognised, to win the golden ball, to be player of the season in the Premier League, because goalkeepers are lonely guys at one end of the field.
“I made a point to hug De Gea at West Ham because no save from [Michail] Antonio means no three points.”
