Jose Mourinho has expressed his disappointment with his players for celebrating Juan Mata’s goal for a bit longer than what was needed.
Manchester United defeated Hull City 2-0 in the EFL Cup semifinal 1st leg at Old Trafford. Goals from Juan Mata and Marouane Fellaini saw them cruising to their ninth straight win what was a total dominating display by the Red Devils.
Despite creating so many chances it took 56 minutes for United to score the opener. Antonio Valencia romped down the right wing and sent a delightful cross to the penalty area. Mkhitaryan rose high to meet the ball with a looping header to the second bar and Mata put the ball into the net with a slick finish.
Mourinho said, “In cup ties every goal can be crucial — so why celebrate when you have half an hour to play?
“I don’t think we should. There is no reason to celebrate the first goal.”
United are set to entertain Liverpool on 15th January in the next match.
