Hull City’s signing spree doesn’t seem to be slowing down and in a shocking turn of events, a bid for former Manchester United winger, Nani, has reportedly been lodged by the Tigers. Marco Silva has turned around things to an extent and the difference has been palpable in the team which has played under him.
Hull City were embroiled in boardroom chaos in the summer which affected their start to the season. The caretaker manager Mike Phelan had only 13 outfield players to choose from but the manner in which the players responded to their manager’s calls and tactics showing terrific fight and desire, got the fans to back the team again.
They stunned Leicester City in the first match of the season and it was clear that the Tigers would not give up without a fight. But with the sparse quality in the squad and the unfortunate injuries on top of that saw their initial momentum fade away and they subsequently fell into the relegation zone. They were headed nowhere under Phelan and the club had reservations about carrying on with him in the long-term.
In came Marco Silva and he has got the club buzzing with the signings he has made and the manner in which the players have responded to his tactics.
He has given the club a lift and the displays against Chelsea and Manchester United (they actually won against the latter) has given the fans some hope that they will be a much stronger outfit going forward in their quest to beat the drop.
He has signed a number of players who will certainly bolster their options but he has also lost the services of Robert Snodgrass and Jake Livermore. Snodgrass’s exit is likely to hurt them more as the Scottish winger was their best player in terms of attacking output.
And Silva certainly hopes that Nani can come in and fill that void, at least for the remainder of the season. He only joined Valencia in July but has struggled to reverse the fallen giant’s fortunes as they battle against relegation from La Liga.
Nani has played 15 league games for Valencia and has made an impact, scoring two goals and assisting six more. But it seems like he will have to fight for survival in the Premier League rather than the La Liga where Valencia are also feeling the heat.
Silva has previously worked with Nani, having taken him on loan to Sporting Lisbon when he was the manager for the 2014/15 season, and they won the Portuguese Cup together. And the relation between the two will be crucial if Hull City are planning to finalise a deal.
