It seems like the new Hull City boss has an affinity towards for flop players. After bringing in Evandro from FC Porto, who hardly saw any first team action this season and Omar Niasse from Everton, who was reduced to an Under-23 forward by manager Ronald Koeman, the Portuguese manager has now moved for Liverpool flop Lazar Markovic, as per reports.
The Tigers have been doing well since a change in their managerial staff. Apart from the two big matches against Manchester United and Chelsea they have defeated the likes of Swansea City, Bournemouth and are on their way out of the relegation zone.
Against the Blues last Sunday, Marco Silva’s men looked absolutely up for the task and everyone were of the opinion that they deserved a point for their tremendous spirit. However, the match ended on an ugly note with midfielder Ryan Mason suffering a horrific skull injury. Marco Silva has definitely brought an air of excitement about Hull’s game in KCOM Stadium even with his unusual targets in the transfer window.
Markovic had joined Liverpool from Benfica for 20 million pounds back in 2014 and has since failed to impress in any way. As a result, he was sent out on loan to Fenerbahce in 2015 and then on loan back to Portugal to play for Sporting Lisbon, but it seems he hasn’t yet got back his touch and his loan spell has been cut after just half a season. He has had just 20 starts in the last two seasons, including just a half dozen at Sporting this term.
Still only 22 years of age, the Serbian international has ample time to settle into the league and make a major impact. And Marco Silva looks to attempt something like that with him. The player is returning back to England and Hull could be the best option now.
An FK Partizan Belgrade U19 product, Markovic came into prominence during his brilliant stint at Benfica. An attacking midfielder by nature, Markovic can play equally well on the flanks as well as through the middle. He even has 22 caps for Serbian national team, where he has three goals. Markovic’s dribbling skills and the perfect eye for through passes caught many eyeballs a few years back.
Liverpool were more than happy to sanction another loan move for the player and with Hull City playing Manchester United twice, apart from Arsenal and Liverpool, in their next five games, his contributions could be vital for the team.
