Arsenal have activated a clause to extend midfielder Santi Cazorla’s contract for a year, the FA have confirmed. The midfielder has already been ruled out for the entire season.
The Spanish midfielder’s contract was due to expire at the end of this season. Recently the Gunners extended the contract of Per Mertesacker. Cazorla may not appear further in this season having undergone two ankle surgeries.
Wenger had earlier hinted that he is considering giving the above mentioned two players a new contract.
Cazorla was signed from Malaga in 2011 and has gone on to cement a place in the Gunners midfield. The playmaker has appeared in more than 160 matches for the English side.
Arsenal still haven’t made any announcement regarding this issue. The FA generally updates their list of player’s contract details and Cazorla’s name has appeared on that list.
According to that list, Arsenal have added another year on the player’s contract on 20th December.
