David James has come out in defence of Liverpool defender Laris Karius after the latter made some silly mistakes against West Ham United and Bournemouth. Jurgen Klopp has been playing Simon Mignolet at the goal for the last few matches.
The Germany U21 international has been a bench warmer as Mignolet has been handed the job to keep the Reds goal. Karius arrived from Mainz in this summer and was supposed to be the number one keeper as Mignolet had been error prone for the Merseyside club for the past couple of seasons.
Karius has faced severe criticism for his keeping but the Ex-Liverpool keeper backed the keeper.
He said, “I like Karius – I looked at him last season before Liverpool signed him. He’s got a tremendous amount of growth in him and rather than a bad goalie who could be good, I see him as a good goalie who could be great.
“Of course there is an element of pressure on him but Karius has to learn that that is just part of the environment – all eyes are on you because goalkeepers have always been such a great part of the Liverpool tradition.”
