Kieran Tierney is the heartthrob of Celtic fans. One of the best young players in not only Scotland but probably also in Europe, the 19-year-old has found his stock rise since he broke into the first team under Ronny Deila. Since then, he never had to look back and has found being linked with Europe’s elite clubs. In the long run, he has what it takes to become a world-class left-back and Celtic fans should know that he won’t be at Parkhead for too long in his career.
Sky Sports claims that the 19-year-old is wanted by both Chelsea and Bayern Munich following his incredible showings for Celtic in the Champions League and he feels very flattered by the interest. The Scottish international said, “Obviously when you are younger some people dream about playing in the Premier League but I dreamt about playing for Celtic. It was always a Celtic strip I wore.
“It’s flattering hearing clubs like Bayern and Chelsea mentioned. They are some of the best teams in the world but if you are a youngster playing first-team games every week for Celtic and doing well, you will get noticed by teams in Europe.”
Well, it is obviously not good news for the Celtic fans to see their stellar player being wanted by two of Europe’s biggest clubs. For Tierney, of course, the interest will be flattering but he must ensure that he stays at Parkhead for at least two more seasons. He is a quality young player who has all it takes to play for a club like Chelsea or Bayern but it is too soon to move. He is still only 19 and still needs plenty of development to become a regular in the Premier League or Bundesliga.
He will have to compete with some established players for a first team place at Chelsea and Bayern Munich. At Bayern, he will have to fend off competition from David Alaba and Juan Bernat for a place in the starting XI. Well, Alaba is one of the very best in that position and a move to Bayern now means that Tierney would have to languish on the bench for two or three seasons at least.
On the other hand, Tierney seems like the perfect left wing-back for Chelsea but Marcus Alonso has done really well in the role. So, at this moment, a move to Chelsea could be a bad decision for the promising full-back. Tierney still has a lot to learn which he can do under Rodgers by playing regularly for the Bhoys and after two or three years, he can move to any big club in Europe, becoming their first choice.
