Brendan Rodgers is wasting no time in trying to add reinforcements. January transfer window has opened and Celtic have already signed Ivorian wonderkid Kouassi Eboue from Russian Premier League side Krasnodar but Rodgers is in the market for further additions. According to Dutch newspaper Voetbal International, Celtic are one of three clubs interested in signing Dutch playmaker Lex Immers following his release from Cardiff City.
The 30-year-old had failed to impress with the Bluebirds in seven months after joining them in the summer of 2016 and has returned to the Netherlands. Celtic could be his next destination as per the Dutch media house and it could be a pretty good deal for the Hoops.
Immers is a versatile footballer as one could be. His best position is the number ten role but he can also do a pretty good job when deployed up front as a solitary striker or even on the flanks. The 30-year-old played a lot of games as a number eight too which means that he’ll be able to give Rodgers plenty of options.
Barring his poor spell at Cardiff City, Immers has always been a quality player. He boasts a big frame of 6 ft 1 1⁄2 in but still is a very mobile player. His combination of strength and pace along with a brilliant positional sense makes him a hard player to defend against. A hard-working player who gives his all in every game, Immers would fit in Rodgers’ style of pressing and attacking brand of football.
Previously at ADO Den Haag and Feyenoord, Immers boasts plenty of experience in Eredivisie. He used to be one of the key players at Feyenoord under now Everton manager Ronald Koeman. What Immers brings to the team is a lot of goals from midfield. In 215 Eredivisie outings with Feyenoord and ADO Den Haag, he had scored 50 goals while setting up 27. So, it is quite clear that the Dutchman is a prolific player.
Even though Immers is 30 now, he could still be a big success at Parkhead. With his versatility, he could be an asset to Rodgers and with his experience at the top level, he could help the Hoops to restore their lost pride in Europe. Kris Commons’ future at the club seems doubtful and Immers could be his direct replacement. Every manager loves to have versatile players in the team and it is no surprise to see Rodgers looking for Immers’ signature.
