Burnley’s defence has been one of the most impressive ones among all the midtable teams. Sean Dyche’s tactics involve keeping a close backline, who play a compact game quite often in order to frustrate opponents. Manchester United have been one of their major victims and Arsenal have escaped by the skin of their teeth on both the occasions this season.
The Clarets have conceded 33 goals in 22 games so far, which is lesser than those of Stoke City and West Ham United, who are sitting at the top half of the table currently. And one of the main reasons for it has been the superb display of their defensive duo Michael Keane and Ben Mee. Mee, originally a left-back, has developed into a brilliant centre-half at Burnley and Dyche doesn’t have many options at left-back apart from Stephen Ward now.
Dyche is keen to bolster his left-back options and sources close to the Clarets have told ESPN FC, that they have found a suitable candidate in Hull City defender Andrew Robertson. The 22-year-old has been quite impressive this season in the back line of Hull City and a number of top clubs are closely monitoring his situation at the club. The Scotland international has been right on the mark since his move to KCOM Stadium.
The left back made 24 appearances in his first season in the Premier League, but he could not prevent Hull from suffering relegation in 2014. However, he played a significant role in winning the Tigers a promotion back to the Premier League and has been an important player for them despite his young age.
The Tigers are obviously unwilling to part ways with one of their prized assets and they had already decided on a contract extension just before Christmas. The only edge Burnley will have in this deal over Hull is that they are unlikely to get relegated this season and it might just lure the player to make the move.
A youth product of Scottish club Queens Park FC, Robertson broke into the first team in 2012 and soon made a level up to Dundee United the following year. His impressive displays led Hull City to pick him up from Scotland in 2014. A perfect left back, Robertson has attracted many clubs with his passing and dribbling skills and could be an asset for any side.
Given his age, he could definitely be a long-term prospect for the Clarets and under a pragmatic manager like Dyche, he could really flourish.
