Robbie Brady has been a hot prospect this transfer window with almost all mid-table and Championship clubs lining up a bid for the Norwich left-back. And according to The Mirror, Burnley are currently in the pole position to sign the player with an offer worth up to £13m, £10m down plus £3m in add ones, already tabled.
The Clarets are likely to land him this week, winning the race against teams like Sunderland, West Ham United, Crystal Palace and Leicester City. Although Crystal Palace and Sunderland have also put an offer on the table, Burnley’s superior league position will definitely give them the edge.
The former Manchester United youngster starred for Ireland at Euro 2016 last year and has been gathering interest since then. The Canaries, however, managed to fend off interest from other clubs in the summer and kept him.
Sean Dyche’s men have played surprisingly well this season so far and are sitting 10th in the League with 26 points after 21 games. Although the mid-table is extremely congested this season with fewer points and goal difference separating the teams, Burnley’s consistent displays in tricky fixtures has helped their cause.
Despite having one of the most average squads in the league, Dyche has managed to pull some fantastic results in the past few months and the Clarets, unlike most lower table sides, are in no hurry of buying or selling players. Perhaps, this is what makes them a favourable destination for Brady, who will get to play without too much pressure.
Despite an impressive stint with Manchester United, Brady had to move out to get first team action and it was Hull City where he finally got a platform to express himself. He established himself as a regular there and impressed Steve Bruce, who could use him both as a winger and as a side-back, as and when needed. Some strong performances there attracted suitors and earned him a move to Norwich in 2015 and he has been an important player for them since then.
In his 19 appearances, this season so far, Brady has scored three goals, creating 31 chances and three assists. He has completed 510 passes with a pass accuracy of 74%, of which 82% have been forward passes. Having a composed left-foot, Brady is known for his perfect crosses and ability to dribble past opponents with ease. He is also quite strong in taking set-pieces and wins 80% of his aerial duels on average.
Burnley have Brady’s compatriot Stephen Ward as their left back and it would be an interesting competition between them as Burnley advance to an interesting phase in the league.
