Throughout the transfer window, Chelsea have been linked with a number of players in various positions of the pitch. It might seem surprising, given the amount of success and the manner of it, the Blues have enjoyed till now. They have scripted history and have sent out a strong message to the rest of the league.
Their display this season has been even more commendable because of the fact that they weren’t given any chance when the season started.
It was all about the Manchester clubs and the deadly combo of stability and spending at Arsenal which took away all the headlines. But Conte would have loved exactly that and was busy behind the scenes working out a formula to do exactly what he has done.
But we have to mention that while Chelsea are playing brilliant football, a number of other factors, namely their hard work and focus aided, are helping them. Conte has been extremely lucky regarding the situation surrounding the fitness of his players. He has lost no one to a lengthy layoff and they have also been lucky regarding suspensions and the form of the players.
It is not necessary that all of this will keep ticking throughout the season and next season as well, when they will be faced with the prospect of managing 4 competitions, Conte will very well realise he doesn’t have the necessary depth nor the required quality to dominate globally.
And this is the sole reason why they have been constantly linked with a number of stars. But an area of the pitch which has been given some extra attention has been the fullback region, with the left wingback an area in which they are running thin.
Marcos Alonso has come in and has been impressive. He has taken to Conte and his tactics like a fish to water and is an important part of the setup due to the formation and also due to his own displays. But apart from him, there is mostly an empty hollow which needs to be taken care of, sooner rather than later.
And with the latest reports emerging of Sead Kolasinac being linked with Chelsea, the fans will hope that the deal gets a move on with just 3 days left in the window.
The Bosnia & Herzegovina international has been used in a rotational role with Weinzierl employing both him and Chelsea loanee Baba Rahman at left-back at Schalke. It is understood he will be seeking a clarification on his future role before deciding on the state of his contract.
The 23-year old is also a front-footed left-back and is aggressive in his approach and these are the attributes which would aid in a change of approach whenever Conte wishes to implement it. His positional sense is far better for his age and he has a lot of scope to improve. Under Conte, he has the potential to develop into a much better player and will increase the depth of the team and also bring in freshness to the squad which will come in handy as the matches go by.
