Brighton and Hove Albion came so close to an automatic promotion last season but faced only disappointment at the end of the season. But this time, the Seagulls are the favourites for the Championship title. They are two points ahead of Newcastle United in the title race and have a game in hand and the other teams are quite a long way behind. If the Sussex-based side can keep up their stunning form, Brighton will certainly get an automatic promotion.
It’s pretty obvious that Brighton’s biggest challenge to achieving an automatic promotion will be from Newcastle United and it is as clear as daylight that Newcastle United have a much better squad when compared to the Seagulls and Rafa Benitez is a world class manager who can help the Magpies overcome the gap in the table. That is probably why the Championship giants are in the race to sign Premier League legend Frank Lampard who is also wanted by their biggest rivals Crystal Palace.
Frank Lampard, popularly known as ‘Super Frankie’ is now 38 years old and is still not willing to hang up his boots. Well, you can hardly blame him for that if you look at his figures at his last club New York City. The talismanic midfielder found the back of the net 15 times from 31 games for the Major League Soccer side from which it is pretty clear that Lampard isn’t finished just yet.
The 38-year-old has three Premier League titles, a Champions League winner’s medal and four FA Cups to his name and has represented England at the highest level 106 times. The experience he will bring in is beyond description. He will be a massive addition to the Seagulls both on and off the pitch.
Oliver Norwood and Dale Stephens are the first-choice midfield pair at the Amex Stadium. The arrival of Frank Lampard is likely to change the system at Brighton. Throughout his career, Lampard has always been a regular goalscorer from midfield and his instinctive finishing is still there which is evident from his figures at New York City.
The Englishman has lost yards of pace with his age but with his goalscoring instinct still there, he is likely to be deployed is a much-advanced area where he could score a lot of crucial goals for the Seagulls.
Lampard will bring a plethora of quality and experience with him if he moves to Brighton but moreover, Brighton will make a huge statement with his signing. They are a club on the rise and Lampard will only make their progress much faster.
