Bournemouth have done quite well this season as Eddie Howe is establishing himself as the next big thing in the managerial world. With very limited resources available at his disposal, the young manager has built his legacy in the last few years and they are reaping the benefits this season. The progress Howe has made with the Cherries over the years is amazing and is indeed a fairytale. However, the South Coast club have been hit very hard by the recalling of Nathan Ake to Chelsea.
Ake established himself as a key player at the Vitality Stadium during his loan stay at the club and now replacing him would be a hard ask for Howe. The Daily Mail claim Bournemouth want Liverpool defender Joe Gomez on loan for the rest of the season to replace Ake and this could prove to be a smart deal for all parties.
Liverpool and Bournemouth share a very good relationship between them. The Cherries signed two Liverpool youngsters Brad Smith and Jordon Ibe back in the summer from Anfield and as per reports, Gomez could also spend the rest of the season at South Coast with his former teammates.
Liverpool signed Gomez from Charlton athletic back in the summer of 2015 when Brendan Rodgers was at the helm. Despite being a central defender, Rodgers started using him at left-back from the very first game ahead of error-prone Alberto Moreno. Just when Gomez started wowing the fans with his composed displays in the backline, his season ended with a lengthy injury.
Gomez came back from injury back in November and got his match fitness back while playing with the reserve side of Liverpool. It was against Plymouth Argyle in the FA Cup on Sunday when he played for the first time under Klopp and this time, in his natural centre-back role. He looked quite composed on the ball and Klopp must have liked what he saw in the young Englishman.
A loan spell with Bournemouth should be helpful for the young and promising defender. He is unlikely to get much playing time for Liverpool this season with the likes of Matip, Klavan, Lovren and Lucas ahead of him in the pecking order. A ball-playing defender like Gomez will be a good addition to the Bournemouth side who play on the front foot.
