A classic cup tie was to unfold at White Hart Lane as Mauricio Pochettino’s Tottenham hosted a league two team that is a team from the 4th tier of English Football, Wycombe Wanderers. Once again, the approach from a big fish such as Tottenham was evident as Pochettino opted to play a bold 4-4-2, by making use of some of the fringe players. Spurs eventually won the enthralling game but it could have so easily been the other way round. Here are the player ratings for the hosts.
GK: Michel Vorm: 3.5/10
Was caught badly for the first goal and conceded two more during the match. A bad performance and this will get him nowhere near enough to displace Lloris.
RB: Kieran Trippier – 5.5/10
Tried his best in the defence and looked to compete a lot but couldn’t deliver anything in the attacking sector. A decent performance.
CB: Carter-Vickers – 4/10
Made a very rash challenge to give the penalty away but got an assist for the goal that breathed hopes of optimism in the second half. The young lad still has to improve a lot.
CB: Kevin Wimmer – 4.5/10
Struggled at the back and was substituted early.
LB: Ben Davies – 4/10
Nothing extraordinary throughout the game. Rose wouldn’t be concerned at all.
CM: Eric Dier – 5/10
The captain for the day and it was a disappointment as the performance was thoroughly shambolic. The youngster needs to start stepping up because we very well know he has the calibre to do so.
CM: Moussa Sissoko – 4/10
The price tag catches attention again as Sissoko once again failed to deliver. He hasn’t done any justice to his big-money move last summer.
RM/CM: Harry Winks – 6/10
Made adventurous runs through the middle in a match where it looked like he was likelier to play on the right. Team-mates did anything but capitalise on his efforts but the youngster has that spark in him to go a long way.
LM: Josh Onomah – 3/10
He had a torrid game and it is a massive chance wasted for the lad.
FW: Kevin N’Koudou – 4.5/10
Final balls were of poor quality even though his trickery and play troubled the opposition. He was subbed off early and it was a wise decision from the manager.
FW: Son Heung-Min – 8/10
Man of the match without a doubt as his finishes have single-handedly taken Spurs into the next round! Son has made a strong point about team selection to the manager.
