Manchester United brushed aside Wigan Athletic in the 4th round of the FA Cup and made a grand entry into the draw for the 5th round. The loss against Hull City was put behind and United showed no signs of nervousness or uncertainty as they put four past the Championship club. It was a satisfying night for the German legend, Bastian Schweinsteiger who was included in the starting lineup.
The Germany international set up his side’s opener before rounding off a sound display with their final goal in a simple victory over the Latics. Another man whose status under Mourinho has come under question over recent weeks – Anthony Martial – marked his own return to the side by setting up Chris Smalling and Henrikh Mkhitaryan for second-half goals.
The Best And The Worst Manchester United Players Rated From Their Win Over Wigan Athletic.
ROMERO- 7/10
Made a fine save from a shot by Perkins. Although a lot of shots came right at him, nonetheless he was steady. Seems to be gaining popularity amongst the fans as well.
FOSU-MENSAH – 7/10
Looked lively and was a bundle of energy. Although, could not keep it under wraps for the whole while. Was subbed off with a knock.
SMALLING- 7/10
Had little trouble containing Grigg but looked a bit rusty at times. Needs minutes to get his full confidence back. The headed goal would have helped in that regard.
ROJO- 6/10
Not the most comfortable player on the pitch today. Some questionable positioning but used Smalling’s movement to thwart Wigan on the break.
SHAW- 6/10
Start after a long time. Worked hard but the quality in the final third was missing.
FELLAINI- 6.5/10
Not the best start as he misplaced a number of passes but his header just before the break settled the nerves.
SCHWEINSTEIGER- 8.5/10
Brilliant display after coming back into the first team after an eternity. Put the ball on a platter for Fellaini and showed his class throughout. Got a well-deserved goal.
MATA- 6/10
Not a telling display. Quality from set-pieces was eye-catching but little joy otherwise.
MKHITARYAN- 6/10
Underwhelming performance from the attacker. Missed a sitter and failed to have any real impact.
ROONEY-7/10
A typical Rooney display which we have come to see in the last few years. Provided a reliable link between midfield and attack. Put in a defensive shift as well.
MARTIAL- 7/10
It was his first start as a striker since Shrewsbury away 11 months ago and it looked it. Redeemed himself in the second-half with two assists from the left.
SUBSTITUTES
PEREIRA- 6/10
TUANZEBE- 6/10
For debut.
HERRERA- 6/10
An assist.
