Arsenal legend Thierry Henry has claimed that Arsenal don’t need Dimitri Payet as they already have Alex Iwobi who can be as good as Payet.
Payet has been in the headlines recently for his tantrums with West Ham United. The midfielder was told to train with the U-23 players after he said that he will never play for the Hammers. The French man has been linked with Arsenal but Arsene Wenger has claimed that they don’t need the creative midfielder as of now.
Iwobi has made 13 starts in the Premier League so far. Basically, a left winger Wenger has tried him in various positions. The 20-year-old has racked up two goals and four assists in his 17 appearances this season.
Former Arsenal striker Thierry Henry thinks that if Iwobi goes on to play like this he can emulate Payet.
“I don’t think Arsenal need a player like Payet at the moment.
“They have Iwobi who could be like Payet in a few years’ time, he has been good for Arsenal playing through the middle.
“Iwobi needs games to fulfil his potential and signing a player like Payet could limit his playing time, and it could spell doom for his development.”
