Arsenal are preparing to send defender Per Mertesacker on loan in January. The veteran German hasn’t played a single match this season after getting injured in the pre-season.
The 32-year old has been battling with injuries and has recently started training. Arsenal brought Shkodran Mustafi in this summer and the German defender has been a constant presence in the Gunners’ defence alongside Laurent Koscielny.
With Gabriel and Rob Holding also in the fray, it would be very hard for Mertesacker to get a chance in the first team.
The World Cup winner is out of contract at the end of this season and Wenger could send the defender on loan with Bundesliga being an option. He arrived at the club in 2011 and has won two FA cups with them.
Wenger will not allow him to join a Premier League club like he did with Jack Wilshere as he sent the midfielder to Bournemouth on a season-long loan.
