Arsenal reportedly had a £35m bid rejected for AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas in the summer, his agent has claimed. The Greek defender has been in demand recently and is wanted by both Arsenal and Manchester United.
The 25-year old has declined a contract extension and wants to move out from the Stadio Olimpico. Wenger spent a hefty £35m to bring Shkodran Mustafi from Valencia and the German centre-back has adapted very well at the Emirates. The French gaffer has a number of defenders with the likes of Gabriel Paulista and Rob Holding in his ranks so a bid in this transfer window seems unrealistic.
Manchester United are lining up a bid of £47.6m in an effort to land AS Roma defender Kostas Manolas.
Manolas’ agent Ioannis Evangelopoulos said, “Probably there will be something in the summer, if anything
“In general, it’s hard to make predictions in football, as it is in life. Kostas has the opportunity to play at a higher level, so I would not expect him to go to China.
“Last summer, a bid of around €40m from Arsenal was turned down for Kostas. Arsenal had shown interest before, but Roma’s demands were higher than the English club were willing to go.”
