Leicester City had a narrow escape against Derby County as a late goal ensured a draw and a replay against the Rams for their progression to the 5th round of the FA Cup to get confirmed. It was another lacklustre showing by the Foxes who have inexplicably failed to put up any sort of resistance or fight to save some face while trying to defend their hard-earned title. While the players have etched their names in Premier League folklore, there have been murmurs of complacency and lack of desire in a number of players this season.
Yes, maybe they will never beat the achievement of last season but as professionals, one has to perform or try to perform day in, day out to the best of one’s ability. And Ranieri has to make sure of that part with a very crucial time of the season coming up. With the Champions League and the FA Cup replay complicating the fixtures, he needs depth and the available players to put their hands up and give their all.
The clash against Burnley might look easy on paper but the ground reality is something different. The Clarets are in the 13th spot and are 5 points ahead of the Champions. It will be another difficult match but a match Leicester City should be winning.
PREDICTED LEICESTER CITY LINE-UP VS BURNLEY (4-4-1-1)
DEFENCE
Kasper Schmeichel will be in goal and will be fairly confident of keeping a clean sheet but with his defence not performing up to the standards, he might have to step it up a notch for his team. Danny Simpson will be at right-back and will be looking to keep things tight and also to push out and shift the pressure back on Burnley on the flanks. Wes Morgan and Robert Huth haven’t been at their best this season and need to really get their form back now if the Foxes are to stage a turnaround. Fuchs will be at left-back.
MIDFIELD
Danny Drinkwater is expected to retain his place and will most likely be teamed with Wilfred N’Didi who has been moderately impressive since joining in January. The duo has to be on their game and look to press and harry the opponents. Riyad Mahrez is expected to start and will line-up on the right flank. Albrighton will be on the opposite flank. Gray provides another option.
ATTACK
With Slimani doubtful, Shinji Okazaki and Jamie Vardy are likely to line-up in front. Musa provides an alternative.
