What has changed at Celtic in the last few months? What have been the changes since Rodgers took over? Well, when Rodgers was placed in the Celtic hot-seat, the Bhoys were champions of Scotland for a fifth season running. The Premiership was a one-horse race before Rodgers’ arrival and he was expected to only strengthen the hold.
A major improvement to the starting XI
One thing Rodgers has done at Celtic is to improve the first-team. They had plenty of depth in the squad already but the former Liverpool manager ensured that the players they signed made the starting XI much better.
Scott Sinclair, Moussa Dembele, Kolo Toure, Cristian Gamboa et al- the players Rodgers signed were arguably out of Deila’s reach. Celtic have a lot of match winners in their squad right now. If Griffiths fail to impress in one game, they know that they have Dembele. If Dembele falters, they know that they have Sinclair to win them the game. The quality of the starting XI has improved a lot under Rodgers.
Experience
Rodgers was previously the manager of Swansea, where he build a legacy andthen Liverpool, where he almost won the league. He brought plenty of top level managerial experience with him to Celtic which has been one of the biggest reasons why they have done so well under the Northern Irishman.
The players Celtic signed in the summer also brought plenty of top-level experience with them. Sinclair was an experienced Premier League campaigner while Gamboa has been a regular in international football with Costa Rica. Even at the dusk of his career, Kolo Toure’s experience has been an invaluable addition to the Hoops, both on and off the pitch.
A sense of invincibility
Celtic won the title in the past three seasons with 29, 17 and 15 point margins but this season they are already leading the table by a 19-point margin with a game in hand. There is a sense of invincibility around Parkhead right now.
Celtic have already clinched the League Cup trophy and are still unbeaten in all domestic competitions. An invincible domestic treble, no matter how difficult it sounds, seems very much possible this season. Rodgers has managed to install that belief among the fans which is a big achievement.
