Wayne Rooney could have signed by Napoli, former agent Vincenzo Morabito has revealed.
The England captain has been on a bad patch since Jose Mourinho has arrived at Old Trafford. The 31-year-old has just managed three goals in 25 appearances for the Red Devils this season. Rooney was recently in the midst of controversy when his drunken pictures appeared in some of the leading dailies of UK.
Rooney is two goals shy of overhauling Charlton’s haul of 249 goals, a record if the No. 10 surpasses will make him the highest goal scorer for the Red Devils. Rooney has been stuck at the same place for the last five games as the Englishman is trying to get to the record as soon as possible.
Morabito said, “I know for a fact that he was offered to Napoli as he can’t go to other English clubs, which could lead him to Spain and Italy.
He was, I repeat, offered to Napoli. While the idea is beautiful, when you look at his €10 million (£8.3m) – a year salary, it isn’t realistic.
“He certainly doesn’t have a good relationship with Mourinho, and therefore his future is far from United, even on loan, to give them more room.”
