With 9 matches already played this weekend, we take a look back at the 3 best-performing midfielders from Matchday 17’s action. Although Liverpool are yet to play Everton in a while and that match may bring about a change in the rankings of the players but we are going ahead with the players who have already caught our eye. While the goals did not flow like recent weeks and the defenders were ruling the roost at both ends of the pitch, the more fancy players did have a say, although it was not as pronounced as usual.
Let us take a look at the top 3 midfielders of the week.
DELE ALLI (TOTTENHAM HOTSPUR)
The youngster burst onto the scene last season and along with Harry Kane literally set the Premier league on fire. His technical brilliance along with his youthful exuberance and fearless playing attitude made him a force to reckon with within a matter of matches. Although he hasn’t yet reached his peak of last season till now, he is slowly getting into the groove. He was slow to take off and was even dropped for a period but seems to have regained his confidence and subsequently his form. His on 4 goals and 2 assists till now and will now look to take off from this solid base. More to come from this potential world-beater.
KEVIN DE BRUYNE (MANCHESTER CITY)
The Belgian needs no introduction and it goes without saying that if City have him fit for the entirety of the campaign, the team will be in and around the top spot during the business end of the competition. He is a joy to watch with his easygoing candour while playing and seems to be at peace with the ball at his feet.
He loves assisting his teammates and his accurate and fizzing first-time passes and crosses have yielded innumerable goals and it is no wonder that he leads the assists charts ahead of the likes of Messi with 38 assists since 2014/15. Once again he pulled the strings along with Silva and with City piling on the pressure dispatched a 45-yard crossfield pass out of nowhere for Sterling to brilliantly finish and give City the winner. De Bruyne has 3 goals and 11 assists already this season and is on his way to a record by the looks of it.
MARK NOBLE (WEST HAM UNITED)
Only an absolutely passionate and blind West Ham United supporter would say that the Hammers deserved their 1-0 victory over Hull City at the London Stadium on Saturday. Hull City were wasteful in front of goal and West Ham disjointed all over the pitch. But the dire straits that both the teams are in, they are not in a situation to feel charitable and hence Bilic will be grateful to his captain for keeping a cool head and slotting home the winning penalty which gave them 3 priceless points.
