After getting ousted from the Champions League knockout stages, Tottenham could qualify for the Europa League if they pick up at least a point from their final group game and the hectic schedule of the tournament demands immense squad depth. Spurs’ striking options have anyway been terrible with Harry Kane the only reliable choice for Pochettino and they are looking for strikers in January.
As per reports, Tottenham are keeping tabs in Torino’s in-form striker Andrea Belotti as they look to solve their goal-scoring crisis. Their other option, Victor Janssen has been a great disappointment since his big money move to AZ Alkmaar.
The 22-year-old Torino forward has become a hot prospect since joining from Palermo the previous season, attracting a lot of interest from top Premier League club. The Lilywhites are said to have earmarked the former Palermo youngster as a viable target as manager Mauricio Pochettino seeks other options to ease the burden of Harry Kane’s young shoulders.
But, Belotti is very highly rated and Spurs have to cough up a huge sum to land him at White Hart Lane. Reports have also emerged that that Torino are set to extend Belotti’s contract until 2021, which will boost his release clause well over the 80 million euro mark.
Belotti has scored 10 goals in 12 games and his form has led to increased speculation surrounding his future. Torino will surely not be allowing a player of his quality leave in the first place and even if they do, they would like to make the maximum from it.
Belotti seems to be the right choice at the moment as with him chasing the ball, there is always hope. He forces defenders to make mistakes and does not hesitate to go for tackles. He has a strong finishing touch which has mainly attracted his suitors from all across Europe. Tottenham look like a team, who could really use his prowess in front of goal.
With players like Christian Eriksen, Moussa Dembele, Dele Alli and Son behind him to assist him, Belotti will only flourish more, which might not be the case if he decides to stay at Torino.
Belotti is more like Harry Kane, who is not technically supreme but his persistence helps him to find more of the ball than any other player. And his ability to net the ball when he is in and around the box is brilliant.
Tottenham have currently struggled to gain ground in their league campaign and they will be needing players of the Italian’s calibre to turn the half chances into goals.
