Spurs are in a terrible run of form right now having won just one of their last ten games in all competitions. Swansea, on paper, should have been an easy ride for Mauricio Pochettino’s boys but their recent run of form is far from impressive. Swansea, themselves, were in terrible form until the last game but their result last weekend was a pleasant one for the fans. The Swans were involved in a 9-game thriller and they finished on the winning side. A 5-4 win against Crystal Palace, which was a memorable fixture for even the neutrals.
Spurs tasted their first loss in the League against Chelsea away from home and are now seven points off the top and must start winning games in order to come back to the title race. This is a must-win fixture for Spurs and Swansea will also be keen to get a win at any cost to get out of the danger zone. After last week’s win, momentum is with them and we have to wait and see if they can take that to their advantage.
Here are three key battles those could decide the game.
Gylfi Sigurdsson vs Eric Dier
The Icelandic international will be up against his former club on Saturday and will be keen to impress. The attacking midfielder has been playing as a number nine of late and has been pretty impressive despite his team struggling.
The 27-year-old has scored four goals and assisted the same number from 13 Premier League games this season and will be a big threat to Spurs’ backline. The Londoners will once again miss their key stopper Alderweireld and have to cope with that. Eric Dier needs to be at his best to stop the Icelandic star.
Leroy Fer vs Victor Wanyama
Fer has been impressive for Swansea City throughout the campaign regardless of his team’s struggles. The Dutch international has scored six goals from 12 games this season which is excellent for a central midfielder. He was on the scoresheet twice last week against Crystal Palace and Spurs need to nullify his impact at the middle of the park to win the game.
Wanyama, an experienced midfield enforcer, was one of the best players for Spurs against Chelsea in their loss and has to come up with a solid display to keep Fer silent.
Harry Kane vs Federico Fernandez
Harry Kane has been pretty impressive since his comeback from injury, having scored four goals in four games since his return. He could not make much of an impact against Chelsea last week and will be looking to get back to scoring ways this weekend.
Swansea are far from a solid defensive setup and might struggle to keep Kane silent. Argentine stopper Federico Fernandez is a force in the air and possesses an impressive ability of intercepting dangers. The battle between him and Kane can decide the game.
