Tottenham Hotspur defender Jan Vertonghen has signed a new contract to pledge his future to the club. The Belgian has signed a four-year deal with an option to extend it for a further two year.
The 29-year old who joined from Ajax in 2012 has been a mainstay in the Spurs defence. He had been negotiating a new contract for the past couple of month and at last agreed terms to a new contract. Vertonghen follows the likes of Christian Eriksen, Eric Dier, Dele Alli, Danny Rose and Harry Kane.
The Belgian sounded very happy having signed the new contract, “It’s a big relief I’m very happy to be here, the future look great so I’m very happy to be a part of it.
“This is an unbelievable group of guys and talent and I feel privileged to be a part of that. This is probably the strongest squad that I’ve ever played in. I can’t imagine playing anywhere else.
“We created a great atmosphere in the team and there’s a great buzz around Tottenham.”
